Zentangle
“Sad Birds Still Sing” is a clean form of a zentangle. The most obvious elements of art are lines, shape and value. Additionally, the principles of art that were mostly used were pattern, contrast and emphasis. The first rectangle on my artwork shows a flower and the head of a bird shedding a single tear. The second rectangle demonstrates the design/zentangle of the bird. Last rectangle depicts a tree with its bare and lonely branches. This zentangle piece was done with only a pencil and an extra fine sharpie. There were not many techniques required as this was done by drawing on the paper, rather than anything else. One person that inspired this artwork was a poet that goes by the name of Faraway and its most recent book. It expresses sorrow and hopelessness, but also that of life and happiness. The goal of this artwork was to get a feeling across, and connect with the viewer. By the title, it shows how there is always hope and positivity, even in the darkest of times. While creating this piece, I learned that one must not overthink about the end result, but instead get lost in the moment. The final piece is not what I imagined, and there are certainly things that could have been changed or modified. Overall, this piece is a representation of doubt, helplessness, but most importantly, hope.
